1930s Verses For Children / Ward, Lock & Co. Ltd, London / 18 Beautiful Colour Plates by Margaret Tarrant / In Scarce Lovely Dust Wrapper

In good condition here is a lovely vintage edition of Verses for Children. Undated but research shows it would have been published by Ward, Lock and Co., Ltd of London around the late 1930s. With 18 wonderful colour plates by Margaret Tarrant.

With verses from: Robert Louis Stevenson; E Nesbit; Robert Burns; Louisa May Alcott; Susan Coolidge; Lord Tennyson and William Shakespeare amongst many others.

Inside the pages are in good condition, clean and bright. Has spotting to the outside edges. The top edge, being tinted red also has some spotting. All of the colour plates are present and in top order. With colour illustrated endpapers. This copy has not been written in and there are no other markings of previous ownership.

In the original scarce and beautiful unclipped dust jacket, with illustrations on front, back and spine. Has some nicks and tears to the spine ends and corners, including some small loss, with a slightly larger area of loss on the bottom edge (see close-up photo). With a 1.5 cm closed tear to the top front spine joint and a couple of nicks on the back top edge. Otherwise extremely striking, having kept strong colours. The jacket has now been protected for the future by the addition of a removable plastic sleeve.
