1929 Alice in Wonderland Vintage Book: Bessie Pease Illustrated Edition

Scarce in this illustrated edition, here is a lovely vintage copy of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. Published in 1929 by George Harrap & Co., Ltd of London. It has eight wonderful colour plate illustrations by Bessie Pease as well as a number in black line. In very good vintage condition, with just a few minor condition points to note, detailed below.

Bessie Pease was an American artist and illustrator, most noted for her paintings of young children. During the early 1900s she was one of the better-known magazine and book illustrators in the United States.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. With spotting to the early pages, and then scattered sporadically through the text. Has a lively ExLibris bookplate on the front paste down, along with a couple of pencil notations, one possibly referring to the year of 1932. Has an elegantly-inked inscription opposite on the front free endpaper from Xmas 1930. All of the colour plates are present as called for. Spotting to the closed outside edges, and mild toning along the closed top.

Green cloth over boards have an illustrated paste down to the front, and black titles. In top order. With a some faint light marks to the back (see photos), and a couple of thin faint lines on the spine. Otherwise just some light rubbing and rounding to the corners and spine ends. The colour and paste down remain bright and this is a very presentable tight and square copy.
