1926 Jane Austen Persuasion Two Original Chapters -One of Only 250 Copies

In excellent condition, here is a superb first edition thus copy of Two Chapters of Persuasion - Printed From Jane Austen's Autograph. A scarce, large format edition, printed on hand-made paper. One of only 250 copies produced. Complete with a 32 page facsimile booklet of the original Austen manuscript in her own hand. Published by Oxford, The Clarendon Press in 1926. Little read - if at all, and definitely one for the Austen collector or special gift.

These two chapters represent Austen’s first attempt at the ending of Persuasion. She later rewrote them entirely - so these pages are the only extant manuscript of any of her novels. This 1926 Clarendon edition was the first time the manuscript was made widely accessible to scholars.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. The cleverly attached facsimile is also in top order. Small inked inscription to the top of the front free endpaper. Spotting to the closed top edge. Has a spare spine label title plate still tucked in at the end.

In dark-grey papered boards with cream natural linen spine and paper title plate. Again in top order - just one faint scuff mark on the bottom front, and a slight brown blemish on the top edge. The paper title plate has tanned and rubbed slightly. As mentioned above there is a brand new title plate at the end of the book if you wanted to use it.
