This is an interesting book. A first edition of a children's nonsense story written by the grandson of Charles Darwin. The Tale of Mr Tootleoo by Bernard Darwin and charmingly illustrated in bright colours by his wife Elinor Darwin. Undated but being a first edition published in 1925 by The Nonesuch Press, London. In good condition.

"Close at hand, upon my word, he found a Cockyollybird." It goes on to tell of the cockyolly chicks, a whale, a seagull who takes an egg to our hero, and finally, the Cockyollybird turns into a lovely lady, her chicks become girls and boys, and Mr. Tootleoo proposes. Now meet Mr. and Mrs. Tootleoo!

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound with no writing or marks. Has some tanning and spotting to the closed outside edges.

Brown papered boards have a dark red design with a raised central vignette of Mr Tootleoo. Has some rubbing and rounding to the corners and a couple of nicks to the edges of the back board. With a small torn area at the top of the spine and one small mark on the front.

Your vintage copy of The Tale of Mr Tootleoo will arrive wrapped with great care in tissue and ribbon* and sent well packaged. I am always happy to include a gift message in the parcel if desired.
