A lovely antique copy of Sir Walter Scott's novel Kenilworth. Undated but would have been published in 1918 by TC & EC Jack, London. Has twelve colour plates from original drawings by Henry F Ford who is perhaps best known for his work illustrating the coloured fairy books by Andrew Lang.
Kenilworth A Romance is a historical romance first published on 13 January 1821. Set in 1575, it leads up to the elaborate reception of Queen Elizabeth at Kenilworth Castle by the Earl of Leicester, who is complicit in the murder of his wife Amy Robsart at Cumnor.
Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound with some mild spotting to the endpapers. Has a gift book plate on the front paste down (see photos) with pencilled inscription. All twelve charming colour plates are present as called for. Gilt on the top edge.
Dark red cloth covered boards have striking gilt decoration to the front and spine. With some rubbing to the cloth at the corners. The front board is in super condition with just the odd faint light mark. The gilt is sparkly bright. The main CONDITION point is the rear board has some rubbing in places to remove the dark red (see photo 2). The red of the spine has faded just mildly. There is a little rubbing and rounding to the cloth at the head and tail of the spine, with a small split at the top.
Your antique copy of Kenilworth will be wrapped with care in tissue and ribbon* and sent well packaged. I am always happy to include a gift card with a message in the parcel.
H 23.5 cm x W 17 cm, 566 pages, 0.98 kg. I dispatch worldwide daily from the UK. With the exception of a small number of countries.
* If you would prefer for your book not to be decorativley wrapped but sent simply in the full protective packaging, please add a note to the order.
