1915 A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens - Illustrated Antique Christmas Book

In very good condition, here is an antique copy of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Published in 1915 by William Heinemann, London and is a first trade edition. Scarce in the original purple cloth. This edition is known for the colour having faded over time to a tan brown/green colour - so purple copies like this one are scarce and collectible. With twelve superb colour plates by Arthur Rackham, plus a number of his line drawings. Dulling to the decoration on the spine being the main condition point to note - otherwise in very good order. Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound, with a few folded corner tips. Has illustrated endpapers - with spotting to the early and latter few pages. With a pencil inscription to the front free endpaper, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. All of the colour plates are present as called for, and all in good condition. The top closed edge is tinted purple to match the boards. Has a very slight lean.

Purple cloth over boards have bright gilt decoration to the front. As mentioned above the cloth has faded and the decoration on the spine dulled (see close-up photo). Otherwise again, clean and smart.
