In very good condition, here is a beautiful antique copy of The Book of Friendship - Essays, Poems, Maxims and Prose. Arranged by Arthur Ransome. Undated but was published in 1909 by TC & EC Jack, London. With contributions by Shakespeare; Byron; Emerson; Whitman; Shelley; Burns; Wordsworth amongst many, many others. Includes Christina Rossetti's The Goblin Market. A large volume.
Has the Latin motto on the front taken from Roman philosopher Cicero: Amicus Est Tanquam Alter Idem: "A friend is, as it were, another self."
Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound, with no writing or inscriptions. Has a lovely decorative title page and frontispiece, else unillustrated. Top edge is shiny gilt.
Boards are also clean and smart, with just very slight darkening around the edges - but minor. The gilt decoration is shiny bright, and this is an eye-catching book to display.
Your antique copy of The Book of Friendship will be wrapped with great care in tissue and ribbon* and sent well packaged, tracked and insured. I am always happy to include a gift message in the parcel if desired.
