1908 Gardens of England by ET Cook / A&C Black, London / Beautifully Bound / With 20 Full Colour Plate Paintings / In Good Condition

This is an absolutely beautiful antique book from 1908. Gardens of England by ET Cook is published to the usual high standards to be expected of A&C Black of London. With twenty exquisite colour plates painted by Beatrice Parsons, each with their original tissue guard (see photos) and with a gorgeous floral binding. Condition in detail below.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. There is spotting and tanning to the endpapers and then scattered spotting through the text. With spotting and some creases to the tissue-guards. One of the tissues has been inserted upside down so that the caption is the wrong way up. All twenty colour plates are present as called for, and all in top order. The top closed edge is gilt.

Dark green cloth covered boards have pale green, white and gilt decoration to the front and spine. Again in good order. A couple of condition points to note is rubbing to the bottom edge of the book to remove the dark green surface colour in places (see close-up photo). With a bump/crease to the cloth on the rear spine joint near the bottom also. The gilt titles are sparkly bright and this is a lovely smart, clean and square book.
