In excellent condition here is a beautiful antique copy of In Constable's Country With Many Reproductions From His Paintings by Herbert W Tompkins. Published in 1906 by JM Dent & Co., London, this is a first edition. With sixteen colour plates.
John Constable RA (1776–1837) was an English landscape painter in the Romantic tradition. Born in Suffolk, he is known principally for revolutionising the genre of landscape painting with his pictures of Dedham Vale, the area surrounding his home, now known as "Constable Country", which he invested with an intensity of affection. "I should paint my own places best", he wrote to his friend John Fisher in 1821, "painting is but another word for feeling".

Inside the pages are in good condition. With some tanning to the endpapers and spotting to the title page and tissue guard and then just occasional light scattered spotting through the text and to the closed outside edges. All of the colour plates are present as called for. The top edge is gilt. This copy has not been written in and there are no other markings of previous ownership.
Olive green cloth covered boards have a repeating tree pattern to the front and spine. The boards and spine are also superb with very little sign of any wear and with shiny gilt titles.
