Here is a lovely antique copy of The Channel Islands - Painted by Henry Wimbush and Described by Edith Carey. Published in 1904 by Adam & Charles Black, London. With 75 super colour plates, a folding-map and lovely decorative boards. Condition in detail below.

Contents: Floods and Cromlechs; The Dawn of Civilization; Fiefs and Feudal Tenures; Law Courts and Official Seals; From the Plantagenets to the Stuarts; Charles II on Jersey; Jersey in the Eighteenth Century; The Island of Jersey; Guernsey's Early History; Guernsey in the Days of the Stuarts; Privateering and Smuggling; The Island of Guernsey; The Key of the Channel; The Garden of Cymodoce; The Lesser Islands.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound with just the occasional scattered spot. With some tanning to the endpapers, and an inked inscription to the top of the front free endpaper. Has a cracked hinge near the beginning, giving the front board a mild wobble, but the binding of the text block is good and strong. All of the colour plates are present and in good condition, with a tear to the bottom edge of one of the tissue guards. Still retains the original folding map at the end of the book. The top closed edge is gilt.

Dark-blue cloth covered boards have a light-green and gold design, and gilt titles. With some rubbing to the cloth on the corners to reveal boards beneath at the tips. Has some very faint marks to the rear board but minor and hard to see. With some rubbing also to the spine ends and joints. There are a few small nicks and tears to the cloth at the spine ends and some splits down the spine joints (see close up photo). This is to the surface cloth only and the binding remains tight and strong. The decoration and gilt remain bright and this is an attractive book.

Your antique copy of The Channel Islands will be wrapped with care in tissue and ribbon* and sent well packaged. I am always happy to include a gift card and message if desired.
