In a scarce dust jacket, here is a lovely antique copy of Our Village by Mary Russell Mitford. Undated but would have been published in 1904 by JM Dent & Co., London. With sixteen delightful colour illustrations by CE Brock.

Mitford brings the charm of rural England to life through her vivid and affectionate portrayals of village life. The book is a series of vignettes, inspired by the author’s own experiences in her village of Three Mile Cross in Berkshire. Mitford's writing is known for its beautiful descriptions, humour, and keen observation of characters and daily events. She captures the essence of pastoral life, the quirks of the villagers, and the natural beauty of the countryside. Her work provides a nostalgic and picturesque view of rural England during the early 19th century.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. With some tanning and spotting to the endpapers. This copy has no writing or other markings of previous ownership. Gilt edged along the top.

Beautiful grey cloth covered boards have ornate red decoration to the front, and gilt to the spine. All in top order having been well protected by the dust jacket.

The charming dust wrapper itself has some wear. With edge wear nicks and tears, and a small area of loss to the bottom rear corner (see final photo). With some creases and faint dark marks mostly to the rear of the jacket. Has a beautiful decorative spine.
