1890s Beeton's Every Day Cookery and Housekeeping Book / Victorian - Colour Plates

Here is a an antique copy of Mrs Beeton's Every Day Cookery and Housekeeping Book. Published by Ward, Lock & Co., Ltd of London in the 1890s. With all eight colour plates present including one at the beginning which folds out to show a table laid for twelve people. There are multiple further plates in black and white plus diagrams. This copy has some wear, but remains a lovely antique cookery book.

Containing: New and Valuable Recipes, Including Instructions For Foreign and Vegetarian Cookery, New French and English Menus For Every Month of the Year, New Menus For Breakfast, Luncheon, Tea, Supper & Picnics, New tables of Housekeeping Accounts and Household Expenditure. With Much Valuable Information With Regards to Modes of Cooking, Science of Cookery and Household Arrangements.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. With some tanning and spotting to the endpapers, and also to the closed outside edges. With a prize book plate on the front paste down, dated 1903, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. Charming black and white antique advertisements at the beginning and end. Partially cracked hinges, but not effecting the binding of the text block which is good and strong. All eight colour plates are present as called for.

Olive-green cloth over boards have ornate decoration to the front and spine, accented in pink. Rubbing to the cloth around the edges and to the corners. A few light marks to the front. Some white marks and rubbing to the spine and to the rear board (see photos). Rubbing also to the cloth on the spine joints and spine ends. A little of the decoration has rubbed away in places. So - with a bit of wear but the decoration and gilt titles remain bright and this is an attractive antique cookery book.
