1880 Christmas Books by Charles Dickens - Antique Illustrated Edition

In very good condition, here is a beautiful antique version of Charles Dickens' five Christmas books. This is an 1880 edition of the stories with 28 illustrations by F Barnard. Published by Chapman and Hall of London. A fairly large format edition (see dimensions). More details below.

The five Christmas Books are: A Christmas Carol; The Chimes; The Cricket and the Hearth; The Battle of Life and The Haunted Man.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound with just the occasional bit of spotting. Tanning to the endpapers. No inscriptions or markings of previous ownership. A closed tear to the top of a couple of pages (see photos) and a few nicks to the edge of the frontispiece. The text is in double columns, there are two full-page black and white plate illustrations and many more line drawings in the text.

Beautifully bound in dark racing-green cloth over boards with black and gilt decoration to the front and spine, and a blind-stamped decoration to the back. Also in very good order. Has some rubbing to the surface to remove some of the surface green on the back board. A little rubbing also to the cloth on the corners and spine ends/hinges. A couple of tiny splits to the spine cloth at the head - but minor. The gilt decoration remains shiny bright, and this is a very attractive book.
