1857 Manual of Land and Freshwater Shells of the British Islands - 12 Hand Coloured Plates

At 169 years old, here is a super antique copy of Manual of the Land and Freshwater Shells of the British Islands by William Turton. Published in 1857 by Longman, Brown, Green, Longmans and Roberts of London. With twelve superb hand-coloured plates and numerous diagrams in the text.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. Inscriptions to the front paste down but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. A few of the pages are slightly loose at the bottom, but firmly attached at the top. Some mild spotting in places and slight toning to the closed top edge. All of the plates are in excellent condition.

Red-brown cloth over boards have blind-stamped decorative border and central snail vignettes. In very good order. Mild rounding to the corners. Some splits to the cloth at the head of the spine (see close-up photo).
