c1910s Tales From Shakespeare by Charles and Mary Lamb : Antique Book

A charming antique copy of Tales From Shakespeare by Charles and Mary Lamb. Undated but would have been published in the 1910s by Hurst and Company. With Art Nouveau decoration to the boards.

Tales from Shakespeare has the plays translated into prose designed to make the stories of Shakespeare's plays easier to read. Mary Lamb was responsible for the comedies, while Charles wrote the tragedies.

Contents: Romeo and Juliet; King Lear; Othello; Timon of Athens; Macbeth; The Merchant of Venice; The Comedy of Errors; Hamlet; The Tempest; As You Like It; Much Ado About Nothing; A Midsummer Night's Dream; Measure For Measure; The Taming of the Shrew; Twelfth Night; Pericles; The Winter's Tale; All's Well That Ends Well; Two Gentlemen of Verona; Cymbeline; Life of Shakespeare and Chronological Order of Shakespeare's Plays.

Inside the pages have tanned, but are otherwise clean and tightly bound. Has an inked inscription at the top of the Preface page. Unillustrated. Handy chronology of the plays at the end.

Bottle green cloth over boards have Art Nouveau decoration to the front and spine, and gilt titles. In very good order. A few light spots to the bottom of the front board and the spine. The green cloth on the spine has faded a little in comparison to the front and back. The red decoration and the gilt has remained bright.
