Antique De-Luxe "The Chimes" by Charles Dickens, Full Vellum

In excellent condition, here is a beautiful deluxe edition of Charles Dicken's Christmas novel The Chimes. Being a first edition, published in 1905 by JM Dent & Co., London. In full white vellum, decorated with gilt ivy and cherubs. Has eight colour plates and nine line drawings.

The Chimes: A Goblin Story of Some Bells that Rang an Old Year Out and a New Year In is Charles Dickens’s second Christmas book, first published in 1844—just a year after A Christmas Carol. A powerful social critique wrapped in a supernatural tale. It resonates strongly with Dickens’s concern for the working poor.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. With tanning to the endpapers and a little spotting to the frontispiece tissue-guard. Has a small nick to the fore-edge of the title page. This copy has not been written in and there are no other markings of previous ownership. The top edge is gilt.

The vellum is also in excellent condition. Has a rust mark in the top left corner of the front board (see photos). With one small grey blemish to the spine, along with one tiny nick. Just a little greying along the top edge of the rear board. The gilt remains sparkly bright.
