1951 Two Early Biggles Books by Captain WE Johns / Biggles Works it Out and Biggles Delivers the Goods / Illustrated Vintage Books / Jackets

William Earl Johns was an English pilot and writer of adventure stories, usually written under the pen name Captain W. E. Johns. He is best remembered as the creator of the ace pilot and adventurer Biggles. In his 46-year writing career he penned nearly one hundred Biggles books.

Here is a set of two early Biggles vintage hardbacks. Both published in 1951 and richly illustrated. Biggles Works it Out is a first edition. The contents are in good condition. With sporadic spotting in the text and some spotting to the outside edges. Has some tanning to the endpapers. In a bright and colourful unclipped dust wrapper. This has a few edgewear closed nicks and tears, and some spotting to the white back.

Biggles Delivers the Goods is a first edition fourth impression. With map endpapers (with a small pencil inscription in the top right corner). The pages are the same as the above, with a bit more spotting to the edges. Still has an original advertisement slip tucked inside for another Captain Johns title (see photos). Again has some edgewear nicks and tears to the jacket - with a couple being slightly longer at the spine joints. With some faint dark marks to the white back.

Both jackets have now been protected for the future by the addition of removable archival plastic sleeves.
