A slim but elegant critical appreciation of Austen’s art, written by the respected early‑20th‑century essayist and critic. Belonging to the interwar wave of Austen reception that helped cement her status as a canonical English novelist. Rather than offering biography or textual scholarship, Bailey provides a series of reflective essays that introduce readers to Austen’s style, themes, and moral vision.

The contents are in excellent condition with clean and tightly bound pages. Inked inscription to the front free endpaper. Unillustrated. Has a spare title plate tucked in at the back of the book.

In dark-blue cloth covered boards with paper title plate to the spine. Again in top order. The slightest of rubbing to the back and spine ends - but minor. Overall a very smart copy indeed.
