In excellent condition, here is a charming antique edition of Kenneth Grahame's Wind in the Willows. First published on 8th October, 1908, an Edwardian classic and delightful children's tale. This copy is an early edition being an twelfth edition published in 1922 by Methuen & Co., London. This is an unillustrated edition. The original book wasn't illustrated in the early editions until after this date when EH Shepard was commissioned to add drawings to the story in later books.
Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound, with mild scattered spotting. Has a small inscription on the front free endpaper dated 1942, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. The top closed edge is gilt. Tanning to the other two untrimmed sides.
Dark blue/green cloth covered boards have a stamped classical picture of Pan playing his pipes on the front boards and beautiful ornate gilt decoration of Mr Toad on the spine. Again in top order. Rounding to the corner tips and a small bump to the bottom front corner. Some small splits to the cloth at the spine ends. The gilt on the spine is shiny bright, and this is an eye-catching book on the shelf.
