1908 The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew by WJ Bean / Limited Edition / Cassell & Co., London / 20 Colour Plates and Many More in Black and White

Here is a scarce limited edition antique copy of The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew: Historical and Descriptive by WJ Bean. Published in 1908 by Cassell and Company, London it is number 41 of 100 numbered special large-format copies. With twenty beautiful colour plates and many more in black and white. With eye-catching decorative boards. In good condition with one MAIN CONDITION POINT to note which is extensive notes in an elegant tiny hand have been made on the front and back endpapers (see photos). 

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. All the illustrated plates are present as called for and in good condition. The top closed edge is gilt. In addition to the notes mentioned above there are also some small pencil dots in the margin next to some paragraphs. 

Pale-green cloth covered boards have ornate dark green and gilt decoration to the front and spine. Again clean and smart. With bumping to the corners and with some rubbing away of the cloth at the top front corner. The front and rear board are in top order with shiny bright decoration and gilt on the front. The spine has tanned a bit in comparison to the front but the decoration remains shiny bright. There are some small splits to the cloth at the head of the spine, and a slightly larger split to the cloth at the bottom (see final close -up photo).
