In good condition this is an attractive antique copy of Child Characters From Dickens. Undated but would have been published in 1905 by Ernest Nister, London. Beautifully and richly illustrated with six colour plates and seventy in black and white by Arthur Dixon.
Contents: David Copperfield and Little Em'ly; Tiny Tim; A Runaway Couple; Paul Dombey; Johnny and the Boofer Lady; Little Nell; The Marchioness; Jo; The Golden Lucy; Doctor Marigold's Sophys; Oliver Twist; Steerforth and Traddles; The Little Dolls' Dressmaker; Smike; Little Bebelle; Polly; Little Dorrit; Mrs Lirriper's Jemmy.
Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. Opens with decorative endpapers and there is a black inked inscription here dated 1905 (see photos). All edges are shiny gilt and the fore-edge is a little uneven.
Olive green cloth covered boards have decoration on the front, back and spine, bevelled edges and sparkly gilt titles. Again in top order. There is a little rubbing to the cloth at the corners and spine ends. The front board is in superb condition, there is just one splash mark underneath the titles. The rear board has some dark handling marks and a couple of faint scuffs. The spine decoration also has a little rubbing and a scattering of light spots. The colours have remained bright and un-faded and this is a very attractive book on display.
