1898 The Encyclopaedia of Ornament by Henry Shaw / John Grant, Edinburgh / 60 Superb Detailed Plates / Reproduction of 1842 Original

In good condition here is a superbly illustrated antique hardback copy of The Encyclopaedia of Ornament by Henry Shaw. Being a reproduction of the 1842 original, this copy was published in 1898 by John Grant of Edinburgh. With sixty detailed plates. A fairly large book, (see dimensions below).

Containing examples of architectural ornament, stained glass, painted tiles, wood carvings, ironwork, drapery, book bindings, jewellery, plate etc.

All pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. Has a few pencil inscriptions on the verso of the front free endpaper along with a small newspaper cut-out (see final photo). The original owner has also numbered each plate in the top corner with a pencil number. Has some mild spotting to the endpapers. The top edge is gilt. The majority of the plates are in black and white with several in colour.

Bound in plain dark blue cloth covered boards. These have a few faint light marks and bumped top corners, but are otherwise smart.
