1896 Westward Ho! By Charles Kingsley - Brock Illustrations and Turbayne Covers

In very good condition, here is a beautiful copy of Westward Ho! or The Voyages and Adventures of Sir Amyas Leigh, Knight, of Burrough in the County of Devon, In the Reign of Her Most Glorious Majesty Queen Elizabeth. By Charles Kingsley. Undated but published by Macmillan & Co., London in 1896. With numerous illustrations by Charles E Brock and with striking Art Nouveau boards by Albert Angus Turbayne. 

Looking extremely eye-catching on display.

A historical adventure set during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. It follows the life of Amyas Leigh, a young man from Devon who dreams of sea exploration. The narrative covers Amyas's voyages across the Atlantic to the New World, including his time as a privateer with historical figures like Sir Francis Drake and Sir Walter Raleigh.

Has a school prize bookplate to the front paste down dated 1903. Pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. Some creasing to the frontispiece tissue-guard. Shiny gilt on all sides - with some light scuffs.

In light-blue cloth over boards with ornate dark blue decoration to the front and spine in the Art Nouveau style. Gilt titles, and a gilt school crest on the back board. Also all in very good order. Some light rubbing to the cloth on the spine ends, and tanning to the spine cloth. Otherwise a clean, smart and square book. Looking extremely eye-catching on display.
