1896 The Animal Story Book Ed. Andrew Lang / Superbly Illustrated

In excellent condition, here is a super antique copy of The Animal Story Book, Edited by Andrew Lang. With numerous superb illustrations by HJ Ford (see photos). This copy is a first edition, published in 1896 by Longmans, Green, and Co., London.

This collection gathers true anecdotes, fables, and literary retellings about animals from around the world. With stories about bears, lions, dolphins, dogs and horses amongst many others.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound, with no writing or inscriptions. With just occasional mild scattered spotting through the text. The monochrome illustrations are absolutely superb. The frontispiece still has the original tissue guard - this has tanned. All page edges are sparkly, shiny gilt.

In striking blue cloth over boards with shiny gilt decoration to the front and spine of a lion and bear respectively. Again in top order. Just a little mild rubbing to the cloth on the corners and spine ends, and a thin scuff line on the back - but minor. An extremely eye-catching edition.
