1890s The Mill on the Floss by George Eliot in Two Volumes / William Blackwood & Sons, Ltd / In Good Condition / Decorative Binding

In good condition here is an attractive hardback edition of George Eliot's novel The Mill on the Floss. In Two Volumes. Undated but would have been published in the 1890s by William Blackwood & Sons, London who were Eliot's original publisher. 

Spanning a period of 10 to 15 years, the novel details the lives of Tom and Maggie Tulliver, siblings who grow up at Dorlcote Mill on the River Floss. 

Inside the pages are super - being clean, bright and tightly bound. With just a small pencilled name at the top of an early endpaper, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. Has a partially cracked hinge at the front, and gapes at the gutter in a couple of places, but the binding of the text block is good and strong. An unillustrated edition.

Dark green cloth covered boards have black stamped decoration to the fronts, backs and sides. Has a few very light faint marks to the boards but minor. With gilt titles to the spine. Again in good order. With some rubbing to the cloth on the corners to reveal boards at the tips. Rubbing also to the spine joints and to spine ends with a few tiny splits at the very ends. The green and gilt have kept a good colour, being unfaded. An attractive set.
