1890s The Complete Angler by Izaac Walton and Charles Cotton / Warne & Co., London / Richly Illustrated / Antique Classic Fishing Book

Here is a super antique copy of the classic The Compleat Angler by Izaak Walton and Charles Cotton. Undated but would have been published in the 1890s by Frederick Warne & Co., London in their Prize Library series. Richly illustrated throughout and in a lovely decorative binding.

The Compleat Angler was first published in 1653 by Richard Marriot in London. Walton continued to add to it for a quarter of a century. It is a celebration of the art and spirit of fishing in prose and verse.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. Has a pencil inscription on the front free endpaper, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. Has some toning along the closed top edge and some mild tanning to the other two sides.

Bright red cloth covered boards have lovely ivy decoration and gilt title blocks. Again in good order. With a little rubbing and some slight bumping to the corner tips, and rubbing and a little fraying to the cloth at the head of the spine. With some very faint dark marks to the boards - but minor and the spine has faded just a little in comparison to the bright front.
