1883 Familiar Wild Flowers by Edward Hulme / Second Series / Richly Illustrated in Colour

In excellent condition, here is a beautiful antique edition of Familiar Wild Flowers by F Edward Hulme. With forty bright colour plate illustrations, and in a gorgeous binding, with hand-painted flowers on the front board. Published in 1883 by Cassell, Petter, Galpin & Co., London, and so is 142 years old.

Hulme produced five series of his Familiar Wild Flowers over the years and this is a second series collection with forty flowers described in detail, each with an ornate decorative initial and footer and its own colour plate. Each volume stands on their own individually.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. With no writing or markings of previous ownership. All of the colour plates are present with their tissue guards. The tissues have light spotting. With mildly cracked hinges at the front and back - but minor. The book has developed a slight lean over time.

In a striking green and gold binding with hand-painted flowers on the front board. In top order. The boards are a work of art in themselves and with each copy being hand-painted they are all unique. The green cloth covered boards have bevelled edges and a gilt and black border on the front. With a blind stamped floral pattern in the middle of the rear board. Overall a lovely, smart and shiny copy which is extremely eye-catching on display.
