1880 Summer Time in the Country By Rev Willmott - Antique Book - Summer Writing

In excellent condition, here is an absolutely beautiful antique copy of Summer Time in the Country by Rev Willmott. Published in 1860 by George Routledge and Sons, London. With a gorgeous full decorative cloth binding, forty-four engraved illustrations, illustrated frontispiece and shiny gilt edged pages.

A poetic and reflective journal that captures the essence of rural life and the natural world during the summer months. Themes include the harmony between humanity and nature. The seasonal cycles and their emotional resonance and observations on flora, fauna and country customs. I would imagine this would have been a great balm for a Victorian to peruse during the long, dark cold winter months.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound with no writing or inscriptions. Light scattered spotting through the text. Gapes at the gutter in a couple of places, but the binding remains good and strong. The gilt has remained sparkly bright on all sides.

Beautiful green cloth over boards have shiny red and black decoration to the front and spine, gilt titles and red leaf pattern to the back. Again all in very good order, with sparkly gilt. Has some light scratches and light marks to the green cloth - but minor. Mild rubbing to cloth on the corners and spine ends.
