Here is a comprehensive and engaging history of the river Thames. The Book of the Thames From Its Rise To Its Fall by Mr & Mrs Hall. Undated but research shows this to be a new edition published in 1877 by JS Virtue & Co., London. The original first edition was published in the 1850s. Richly illustrated throughout with line drawings in the text (see photos). PLEASE NOTE this copy is in a fine and sturdy leather binding but there is a fair amount of wear to the surface of the leather and the corners. The contents are in good condition and are firmly bound.
The book opens onto marbled endpapers and there is a prize bookplate on the front paste down dated 1911. Apart from this there is no other writing or markings of previous ownership. With marbled page edges.
In a dark green leather binding with olive-green cloth boards. Has a gilt school crest on the centre of the front board. As mentioned above there are scuffs and some peeling to the surface at the corners and to reveal the boards at the tips. The spine has five raised bands with gilt decoration in each compartment. Again there are some scuffs here and a little peeling to the surface in a few areas. The outside of the spine has sun-faded a bit and this has carried around onto the sides. With a little rubbing also to the green cloth in places.
So with a bit of surface wear but remaining a very well-bound and fascinating book about a river which has for centuries been the lifeblood of London. Your antique copy of The Book of the Thames will be wrapped with care in tissue and ribbon* and sent well packaged. I am always happy to add a gift card with a message to the parcel.
H 23 cm x W 17 cm, 460 pages, 1.26 kg. I dispatch worldwide daily from the UK. With the exception of a small number of countries.
* If you would prefer for your book not to be decoratively wrapped but sent simply in the protective packaging please add a note to the order.
