1876 The Floral World & Garden Guide by Shirley Hibberd / With 12 Beautiful Colour Plates Plus Wood Engraved Illustrations / Good Condition

Here is a beautifully illustrated antique copy of The Floral World and Garden Guide by Shirley Hibberd. Published in 1876 by Groombridge & Sons, London. With twelve gorgeous colour plates plus further wood engraved illustrations. This copy is nearly 150 years old.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound, with a few folded corners and some spotting around the page edges. Has an elegantly inked name on the front paste down - being the name of General Higginson. I was told when I found this book by the previous owner, that this was General Higginson of Marlow, and details about his life can be found on the internet. The outside edges are tinted bright red. All plates are present and in good condition.

Dark-green cloth covered boards have black, gilt and blind stamped floral decoration to the front, spine and back respectively. Again in good order. There is rubbing to the corners and spine ends. With a few small splits to the cloth at the spine head and tail, and one slightly larger one at the top. With one small hole in the cloth on the fore-edge, and a faint light mark on the front near the spine (see close-up photo).
