1872 Nature; or The Poetry of Earth and Sea by Mme Michelet / T Nelson & Sons, London / Beautifully Illustrated / Victorian Nature Writings

In good condition here is a charming Victorian book of nature writings. Nature; or The Poetry and Earth and Sea by Mme Michelet was published in 1872 by Thomas Nelson and Sons, London. With beautiful engravings throughout (see photos). 

Contents: The Garden; Pastoral Scenery; Woodland Scenery; Mountain Scenery; River Scenery; Lake Scenery; The Sea; Illustrative Notes; Analysis of Subjects.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. With some occasional scattered spotting and a few brown blemishes. Has an elegantly-inked inscription on the half-title page, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. With incredibly intricate engraved illustrations and decorations throughout (see photos). All edges are shiny gilt, with spotting to the fore-edge. Has a partially cracked hinge at the end of the book but in no way effecting the binding of the text block which is good and strong.

Red cloth covered boards with bevelled edged have gold and black decoration to the front and spine, and blind stamped pattern to the back. Having also kept in good condition for an antique book of this age. With some rubbing to the cloth at the corners and spine ends where there is some fraying and a few small splits. The gilt and black decoration on the front and spine has stayed shiny and bright. With just a few faint marks and a little rubbing.
