1871 Poems by Dante Gabriel Rossetti / Beautiful Binding

In excellent condition, here is a lovely antique copy of Poems by Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Published in 1871 by FS Ellis, London. With a beautiful decorative binding. Scarce to find so early a copy in such good condition.

Dante Gabriel Rossetti was an English poet, illustrator, painter and translator. He founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in 1848 with William Holman Hunt and John Everett Millais. Rossetti was later to be the main inspiration for a second generation of artists and writers influenced by the movement, most notably William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones. His work also influenced the European Symbolists and was a major precursor of the Aesthetic movement.

Some of Rossetti's poetry was originally buried with his wife Elizabeth Siddal; however, years after her death he exhumed her grave to recover them and went on to publish them in 1870. This copy being from just one year later.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. With decorative endpapers. Has a couple of brown blemishes only in the entire book. With loss to one bottom corner (see photos), but nowhere near the text.

The dark green cloth over boards have a beautiful gilt trellis and flower pattern to front, back and spine. In top order. Just a few faint dark marks to the cloth - but minor. An exceptionally clean, bright, tight and square copy.
