In very good condition, here is a lovely antique copy of The Ferns of Great Britain and Their Allies - The Club-Mosses, Pepperworts and Horsetails by Anne Pratt. Undated, but would have been published in 1855 by SPCK, London. With numerous superb colour plates of different fern varietals. Condition in detail below.

A seminal 19th-century botanical book written and illustrated by Anne Pratt, one of the most successful female natural history writers of the Victorian era. Highly influential in fuelling the British craze for collecting ferns, known historically as "Pteridomania". Pratt wrote in a clear, accessible, and elegant vernacular language intentionally designed to teach non-scientific readers how to easily identify plants in the wild. Her illustrations are now celebrated for their excellent composition and artistic flair.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. No inscriptions or markings of previous ownership. Scattered spotting in places through the text. All of the colour plates are in top order, with their tissue-guards. All edges are shiny gilt.

Light-green cloth over boards have blind-stamped decoration to the front and back. With just a few dark spot marks - but minor. Has some rubbing and fading around the outside edges. Rubbing/rounding to the corners. Rubbing and a little loss to the spine ends. The spine cloth has tanned.
