1832 The Ladies' Pocket Magazine Pt II - Illustrated Antique Book

In very good condition, here is a scarce collection of The Ladies' Pocket Magazine from 1832 - Part II. With twelve superb colour Victorian fashion plates, plus six steel-engraved illustrations. In an attractive binding. More details below.

A highly popular, diminutive British monthly periodical edited, printed, and published by Joseph Robins out of London. Running from 1824 to 1840, this small, slim "pocket-sized" magazine was released in individual monthly issues priced at sixpence, which were then traditionally collected and half-bound by owners into two distinct volumes per year (Part I and Part II). Catering to women navigating the transition from the late Georgian into the early Victorian era, it balanced moral instruction with light entertainment, filling its pages with essays, poetry, historical anecdotes, and serialised romantic stories. Its most defining features were its hand-coloured fashion plates. These vibrant, charmingly detailed engravings—accompanied by "Cursory Remarks" on prevailing London and Paris aesthetics—served as an indispensable, highly portable style guide for the budget-conscious but fashionable 19th-century lady.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound - with light scattered spotting. There is some offsetting of the printed ink to several of the engraved plates opposite (not the fashion plates).

Half-bound in black leather with marbled papered boards. The spine has beautiful gilt decoration, and a red Moroccan leather title plate, again with gilt titles. Also all very good. There is rubbing to the black leather corner tips to reveal boards beneath in places. Some minor scuffing to the spine, and just a little rubbing to the marbled paper. Overall a lovely binding.
