Has eighty-one delightful colour illustrations, each with captioned tissue guards, reproduced from Helen Allingham's watercolours.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA celebrated art book published, most famous for its stunning, romantic visual depiction of the idyllic English countryside. The book is a collaboration between two prominent figures of the era: Helen Allingham, a highly influential British watercolourist. She became famous for her incredibly detailed, warm paintings of rural cottages, traditional gardens, and families. Her work was even widely admired by Vincent Van Gogh. Marcus Bourne Huish was an English barrister, art critic, and writer. He provided the text, biographical memoir, and descriptive commentary that paired with Allingham's artwork.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe contents are in excellent condition with clean, bright and tightly bound pages. Has no inscriptions or markings of previous ownership. Mild spotting to endpapers. Has a cracked hinge opposite the title page, but in no way effecting the binding of the text block, which is good and strong. All of the lovely colour plates are present and each has a clean captioned tissue guard still attached. The top closed edge is gilt.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDark-blue cloth over boards have a striking Art Nouveau floral design, and gilt titles. Again in top order. Having kept a good, deep unfaded blue. The front board is in superb condition - the decoration and gilt titles are bright. The rear board has a couple of faded areas (see photos). Has a little rubbing to the cloth on the spine ends, with a small split to the cloth at the spine head. The gilt and decoration on the spine have marginally dulled in comparison to the front - but minor.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYour antique copy of Happy England will be wrapped with care in tissue and ribbon* and sent well packaged with tracking and insurance.
