1933 Volume the First / FIRST Edition of Austen's Manuscript of Early Writings / In EXCELLENT Condition / Oxford at the Clarendon Press

In excellent condition, here is a first edition copy of Volume the First which in turn was the first printing of these works from the original manuscript. Published in 1933 by Oxford at The Clarendon Press. Definitely of interest to the Austen collector.

Volume the First is a collection of Jane Austen's early works, written in her own hand. The original manuscript includes sixteen short works in various genres, such as stories, playlets, verses, and moral fragments. Austen began writing these pieces around the age of 11 or 12 and completed the transcription on June 3, 1793. The manuscript is housed at the Bodleian Library in Oxford and is part of a series of three juvenile notebooks that contain some of Austen's earliest writings. The collection showcases her youthful creativity and humour, as well as her ability to parody popular stories of her time.

This copy is one of the 1933 first editions and is in excellent condition. It looks as if it may well never have been read. Pages are clean, crisp and bright. Has a neatly-inked inscription on the front free endpaper dated July 1st, 1933, but with no other writing or markings of previous ownership.

The grey papered boards and cream linen spine are also super being clean and bright. The outside edge of the spine and boards has tanned a little. The paper title plate also has a little tanning and rubbing. This copy even has a spare original title plate tucked in at the end of the book!
