1899 The Prince's Story Book / Historical Stories Collected From Romantic Literature About English Monarchs / Illustrated Antique Book

Here is an antique copy of The Prince's Story Book Being Historical Stories Collected Out of English Romantic Literature In Illustration of the Reigns of English Monarchs From the Conquest to Victoria by George Gomme. Published in 1899 by Archibald Constable and Co. London. With twenty-four black and white illustrations.

Has contributions from Sir Walter Scott, Lord Lytton, Froissart, and Thackeray amongst others.

Inside the book opens onto a prize book plate on the front paste down. Also has an inked name opposite on the front free endpaper. Pages have spotting scattered throughout the text, spotting also to the frontispiece tissue guard. Has a cracked hinge at the back, but in no way effecting the binding of the text block which is good and strong. All black and white illustrations are present as called for. The top edge is gilt, the other sides are untrimmed.

Dark green cloth covered boards have a striking knights on horseback design in gilt to the front and spine. The boards have rubbed in places to remove some of the green (see photos). With a little rubbing to the corner tips and a few tiny splits in the cloth at the head and tail. With a white smudge mark to the spine. Otherwise remaining very striking, with bright shiny gilt.
