In good condition, here is an absolutely beautiful large-format antique copy of A History of British Butterflies by Rev. Morris. Published in 1890 by John C Nimmo. London. With seventy-two wonderful hand-coloured plates, each with at least two butterflies and many have three. Some are even accented with shiny silver. Please note dimensions below of this large book. In very good order for a book of 134 years old, just to note is some small tears and a little loss to the cloth at the spine ends.

Inside the large pages are clean and tightly bound. Has a few very small pencil ticks next to the index where a previous lepidopterist has noted which butterflies they have spotted, but this is minor and hard to notice. Has a scuffed area on the opening front paste down where it looks as if a bookplate has been removed (see final photo). All seventy-two colour plates are present and there is also a double page of engraved diagrams at the end of the book.

Dark blue cloth covered boards have gilt decoration to the front and spine, and blind stamping to the back. Again in very good order for an antique book of this age. With some rubbing and rounding of the cloth at the corners to reveal boards beneath at the tips. The front board is in super condition with bright shiny gilt butterflies. Just some mild bumping around the outside edges. The rear board has a little rubbing to the blue, but minor.

With an exquisitely decorated spine. The gilt has dulled just a little in comparison to the shiny front, but is still lovely. There is some rubbing and chipping to the cloth at the head and tail, with a few small tears and a little loss.
