There are watercolours on every page and eighteen full-page tipped-in colour plates with tissue-guards.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOriginally published in Prometheus Unbound, Shelley's poem was written following the death of his child, Will, and the subsequent despondency of his wife, Mary Shelley, while they stayed in Pisa, Italy. It describes how a garden embodies the joy and bliss of spring and summer, before becoming consumed by the decay and lethargy of fall and winter.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eInside the pages are in very good condition. No inscriptions or markings of previous ownership. The book is famous for its full-colour, tipped-in plates mounted on heavy stock paper, each protected by an original plain tissue guard. The pages also feature a vast array of smaller black-and-white and two-tone decorative vignettes. All of the colour plates are present as called for and in top condition. Some of the tissues have creases, one has some dust toning to the top corner. Has beautiful pictorial endpapers. The top closed edge is gilt. Some dust toning along this top edge.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn a stunning, full cream-white vellum binding over boards. The front cover and spine are stamped with intricate, swirling gilt pictorial decorations designed by Robinson himself. Has darkened around the edges and with some light scattered spotting to the front. More spotting on the back. Some tanning to the spine and some rubbing to the spine head where there is a little loss (see close-up photo). A small mark near the top of the spine next to the cherub. The gilt on the front and spine remains lovely and bright, and this is an eye-catching copy.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYour antique copy of Shelley's The Sensitive Plant will be wrapped with care in tissue and ribbon* and sent well packaged.
