Contents are in very good condition, with some rubbing and wear to the leather. As two from originally a set of four volumes, these two are priced to sell. More details below.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBound in full marbled calf leather. With the label of Christian Samuel Kalthoeber - a leading émigré bookbinder. Has marbled endpapers and outside edges. The craftmanship is telling as the binding has indeed held up very well over all the years. There is a good deal of rubbing around the extremities, to reveal boards beneath in places. Rubbing also to the spine, where some of the gilt has now gone. With gilt stamped borders and dentelles.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eInside the pages are clean and tightly bound. Has a frontispiece copperplate engraving plus one further copperplate engraving in each volume (four in total). These are excellent (see photos). With the armorial bookplate of Charles Stewart Loch to an early blank endpaper in each volume. Loch was a prominent British social reformer. It would be fun to research him.
