c1901 What Katy Did at School by Susan Coolidge / Frederick Warne & Co., London / Star Series / Charming Antique Book

A charming antique copy of What Katy Did at School by Susan Coolidge. Published by Frederick Warne & Co., London as part of their Star Series. Undated but I have had other books in this series which could be dated to 1901. This copy is over 120 years old and so inevitably has some signs of age (detailed below), but remains a super book.

I have also seen copies of Little Women in this series in the matching binding.

Inside the pages are tightly bound. With tanning and spotting to the endpapers and then sporadic scattered foxing through the text. Has a few faint handling marks and folded down corners. The top closed edge has toned, with tanning and spotting to the other two closed sides. Opens onto a prize bookplate on the front free endpaper but no there is no other writing or markings of previous ownership.

In petrol-blue ribbed cloth covered boards with ornate black and gilt decoration to the front and spine. The cloth and gilt are clean and bright. Has some rubbing to the corners and spine ends. With a small faint mark in the centre of the front board. The gilt on the spine has rubbed just a little in comparison to the front.
