More details below.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Goldfinch Titles were a short-lived but highly regarded series of hardbacks published by Nicholas Vane in London right after World War II, specifically launched in 1948. Designed as premium, charming editions during a time of post-war paper rationing, they are highly collectible today for their distinct styling.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis set contains: Sense and Sensibility; Pride and Prejudice; Mansfield Park; Northanger Abbey; Persuasion (bound with Love and Friendship). *Note - that in terms of the completed novels, this set does not include Emma.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eInside each book opens and closes with stunning endpapers which are illustrations of contemporary Regency dress taken from works in the library at the Victoria and Albert Museum, central London. Otherwise unillustrated. They are stunning, and quite unlike any other Austen publication (see photos). Else the pages are clean and tightly bound with no inscriptions or markings of previous ownership. The top closed edges are tinted black, (Sense and Sensibility has a few light marks here).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEach black and white dust wrapper also features artwork from the V\u0026amp;A. With the exception of Northanger Abbey (which has a superb condition dust wrapper), the remaining four books have a good deal of wear to the wrappers. There are tears, chips and some areas of loss (see photos). However, this is mostly to the spines and corners (Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice have some spine areas missing). The front upper and lower back panels are intact and the illustrations remain good.
