1935 Fabre's Book of Insects by Mrs R Stawell / Tudor Publishing Company, New York / Wonderful Colour Illustrations by Detmold

A wonderfully illustrated, large and comprehensive antique book. Fabre's Book of Insects Re-Told From a Translation of Souvenirs Entomologiques by Mrs Rudolph Stawell. Published in 1935 by Tudor Publishing, New York. With twelve colour plates by Detmold. The book is in superb condition. with just a couple of minor points to note, detailed below.

Fabre's Book of Insects is a non-fiction book that talks about insects in real life, mythology and folklore.

Contents: The Sacred Beetle; The Cicada; The Praying Mantis; The Glow Worm; A Mason Wasp; The Psyches; The Self-Denial of the Spanish Copris; Two Strange Grasshoppers; Common Wasps; The Adventures of a Grub; The Cricket; The Sisyphus; The Capricorn; Locusts; The Anthrax Fly.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound with no writing or inscriptions. Has the occasional faint handling mark, but minor. The top closed edge is tinted green. With one small stain mark on the top edge, with the green ink leaking just a little over onto the top of the pages (see photos), but again minor. All twelve colour plates are present as called for.

Green cloth covered boards have gilt decoration to the front and spine. Some very slight rubbing to the gilt on the spine and some faint marks on the rear board, otherwise top notch.
