Featuring the expansive artistic work of Hungarian-born illustrator Willy Pogany. This was one of his earliest major commercial book commissions. The first edition boasts 70 illustrations in total. In very good condition, with a crack to the front inner hinge being the main condition point to note. More details below.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMontagu (1901–1985) was the mastermind behind WWII's famous Operation Mincemeat. He was recently played by Colin Firth in the film of the same name. Published when Montagu was six years old, this copy likely originates from his childhood library.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA whimsical nonsense fantasy story about three adventurous siblings—Dick, Marjorie, and their little brother Fidge—who encounter a haughty, talking dodo bird wearing gloves and a blue bow. The eccentric bird, who is quite proud of being extinct, whisks the children away on a fantastical quest that leads them into magical realms filled with gnomes and bizarre characters.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eInside the pages are clean and tightly bound. A couple have been untidily cut open, and there are also a couple of small nicks to edges. Has a closed tear to one of the publisher's catalogue pages at the back of the book. Seventy black and white drawings by Pogany in total, being a combination of full-page and in-text. The top closed edge is tinted light-blue. This has faded a bit over time. As mentioned above, cracks open at the front hinge to reveal webbing (see photos). Pogany designed blue illustrated endpapers. The rear hinge is just starting at the very top, otherwise good.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBlue cloth backed boards have decoration to the front and spine, and shiny gilt titles. In excellent condition. Bright and un-faded.
