1905 Christmas at Bracebridge Hall by Washington Irving / Ernest Nister London / Beautifully Illustrated in Colour / Attractive Antique Book
Here is a lovely antique edition of Christmas at Bracebridge Hall by Washington Irving. Undated but published around 1915 by Ernest Nister, London. Richly illustrated and in decorative boards. In good condition, with some dark spotting to the cream cover being the only real condition point to note.
Christmas at Bracebridge Hall is a collection of five short stories about the festive season. They chronicle the American writer's nostalgic recollections of Christmas traditions in 19th century Regency England. The text first appeared in 1819 in Irving's Sketchbook.
The five stories are: Christmas; The Stage Coach; Christmas Eve; Christmas Day; The Christmas Dinner.
Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound with no writing or any other markings of previous ownership. Has a colour frontispiece and then six further colour plates. There are also black and white plates, decorative endpapers and title page. All edges are shiny gilt.
In pale green and cream cloth covered boards with ornate decoration to the front, and gilt titles to the spine. The cream cloth has the above-mentioned dark spotting (see photos). There is a little rubbing to the cloth at the spine ends. Otherwise the holly decoration, coloured paste down and gilt titles are smart and bright and this is a very attractive antique Christmas book.
Your copy of Christmas at Bracebridge Hall will be wrapped with care in tissue and ribbon* and sent well packaged. I am always happy to add a gift card with a message if desired.
